It started as a complaint about our own software.
CustomerLedger was not designed as a product first. It came out of running several small businesses that kept meeting the same people and never knowing it.
The same human, three times, three systems.
A person calls the answering service for one business on Monday. On Thursday they claim a listing on a directory that the same operator runs. On Saturday they ask a third business for a quote. Three records, three half histories, and nobody able to answer the only question worth asking before you pick up the phone: who is this, and what are we allowed to do with them.
The obvious fix is to put everything in one place. The obvious fix is also how you end up with an agent for one business cheerfully repeating something a customer told a different one, which is worse than the problem it solves. So the actual requirement was two things at once: one memory of the human, and hard edges between the businesses that share it.
Built on live rails
The voice product feeding this record answers real calls for real customers. The counts on this site come from that traffic rather than from a seed script.
Evidence over assertion
Every claim on this website is attached to a measurement, and the build refuses to publish a claim the store does not support. That constraint came first and the writing came second.
Small on purpose, for now
One operator, one tenant, a handful of businesses. The numbers here are honest about that, and a mechanism exercised over a few hundred rows is described as a mechanism exercised over a few hundred rows.
The principle, if you only keep one line.
Remember the right things, prove where they came from, and give the right information to the right person or agent at the right moment.
Not knowing everything. Not storing everything. The value is in a record you can trust under pressure, which means one you can audit, one you can correct without rewriting history, and one that can be handed to software without handing over more than it should have.
